Being healthy physically and mentally is a basic pre-requisite to learning and quality of life. Christel House Academy provides a solid foundation for nutrition by offering a healthy breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. Vision and hearing screenings are provided by the Marion County Health Department and the school nurse.
Immunizations, as governed by state law, are monitored and facilitated by the school nurse. Dental screenings are done on site yearly for those students who parents wish to use this service. Students have access to an onsite nurse from Community Hospitals, as part of a Learning Well grant, who works on getting students back to class or helps parents when children need medical care. Information about free or reduced cost health care clinics is available to parents.
Christel House has a strong mental health care team which consists of: a full-time school social worker, a full-time student advisor and a partnership with Cummins Mental Health who supplies a full-time Therapist along with case managers who work with children and their families.
