Jericho, a fifth-grader at Christel House Academy, recently received the 2006 Future Leaders Award from the Office of the State Treasurer. Mr. Richard Mourdock, Chairman of the Indiana Education Savings Authority recognized Jericho as being an outstanding student and awarded her a $1,000 scholarship at an assembly in front of the entire student body. Jericho was nominated by Ms. Barbara Reynolds and Ms. Michelle Hickey.
The Future Leaders Award is given to 8 students in grades 4 - 8 in Indiana who possess qualities of a leader. Jericho, amongst 7 other students in Indiana, exemplified a combination of the following: community service, progress/improvement in specific areas and overcoming personal obstacles and excellence in her academics. The Indiana Education Savings Authority (IESA) gives this honor to an Indiana student who will then use the money towards his or her college savings. The IESA serves as the governing board of the CollegeChoice 529 Investment Plan SM. Its main objective is to promote college savings plans for Indiana students. Congratulations to Jericho!
